KATHI ROLLS - FROM CALCUTTA TO SYDNEY
Kathi Rolls are our signature product - as evident from our name. Kathi Rolls are available on the menu and comes with a number of filling options.
The secret to our legendary rolls is the Paratha itself. The parathas are cooked fresh in front of you when you order. The taste of the Parathas is critical to elevate our Rolls to the levels of the traditional Kolakata's famous streetside rolls. The filling options inside the paratha which is lined with egg as standard are Chicken, Paneer, Lamb or just the Egg itself.
All our kathi rolls are garnished with lemon juice, chillies and onions as standard. However please indicate your requirements if you do not wish to have chilli, egg or onions in the rolls that you ordered. Please choose the options in the "Variations" section in our Click & Collect menu or let us know when ordering at the kerbside.
Chicken & Egg Kathi Roll Our signature Chicken Tikka cooked in a tandoor wrapped inside a crispy egg-lined Paratha. The tikkas then get sauted with spices to make them succulent, smoky and with loads of flavour.
We garnish the Chicken Kathi Rolls with lemon juice, onions, green chillies and signature spices to create the most delicious rolls that you will not find anywhere else in Sydney. Try one today to bring back the memories of the Chicken Kathi Rolls that became such a legendary street side food pioneered by Nizams, Bihar, Badhshah restaurants in Kolkata and more recently Zeeshan, Kusum , Ballygunge Dhaba, Campari and similar other places.
For our locals who have never tasted a roll, try one today - only then you will know why this food is such a popular food in Kolkata and Northern India.
Lamb & Egg Kathi Roll (aka 'Mutton' Roll!)
One of Kolkata's most popular rolls - the Mutton Roll. Here we are using tender lamb meat which is cooked with aromatic North Indian spices and filled inside our signature egg lined paratha to create the new taste sensation. Some prefer it without the egg lining If you prefer order the parathas without egg lining - please choose it under variations. We want to bring back your memories of the famous Mutton Roll in Kolkata. Give it a try!
Paneer & Egg Kathi RollWe cook Paneer (Cottage cheese) with aromatic spices and green peas and then wrap it inside an egg-lined Paratha. We garnish the paneer kathi rolls with onions, green chilli, our signature spices and lemon juice.
Egg RollA traditional Kolkata favourite - egg roll is the casual "go to" roll when you feel peckish - and do not feel like having a wholesome roll with meat or paneer fillings. We use fresh cucumber and spices as a filling in the egg roll and garnish with onions, lemon juice and chillies.
INDIAN SNACKS
Fish Fry
Kolkata's love for fish fry is a story in itself. The "Bengali babu" will pick the freshest fillet from the favourite fish seller - then carefully using fresh marinade and lemon juice - dipping it in egg and coating with bread crumbs to deep fry. This is quintessential Kolkata food - you'll love it! We serve the fish fry with popular mustard from the sub-continent known as Kasundi.
dalpuri & alu dUm
Dalpuri Alu Dom (v)
One of Kolkata's iconic afternoon food is "dalpuri alur dom". Dalpuri is deep fried puffed round bread ("puri"). The dough for the Dalpuri is stuffed with lentil ("bengal chana daal") and spices. It is a very popular snack enjoyed typically with "Alur Dom". Alu or potatoes are cooked with aromatic spices which serves as a perfect accompaniment with the dal puri.
Although many versions of this dish are available throughout Northern India, we bring the Bengali style dish which is typically a vegetarian dish and is very popular during festivals.
Calcutta Kathi Rolls team is proud to bring Dalpuri Alu Dom to the people of Sydney. This food item will be a welcome addition for our patrons who prefer vegetarian food.
We fry the Dalpuris fresh in front of you when orders are received - so the food is served fresh and hot for your enjoyment. Our Alur Dom recipe is prepared using traditional aromatic spices that our parents and grandparents used to cook at home.
Give Dalpuri Alu Dom a try when you next visit our food truck and renew your connections with our City of Joy! .
mughlai paratha
Mughlai Paratha
One of Kolkata's favourite street food is the Mughlai Paratha. We go back down memory lane to Esplanade East in Kolkata where Anadi Cabin served the Mughlai Paratha to generations of Kolkata street food addicts.
The Mughal influence in the food of Bengal is well established and there are references to the Mughlai Paratha which is prepared with layers of egg on pastry sheets and served with two options - keema ("minced lamb") or alu dum ("potato curry").
According to history books, the creation of the dish is awarded to a chef who cooked food for the Mughal emperor Jehangir and brought to Bengal from the Nawabs of Murshidabad.
The Mughlai parathas are fried fresh and we hope that together with keema or the alu dum tato curry on the side will relive the taste of Mughlai Paratha right here in Sydney. All it requires is for you now to taste this incredible snack food from the City of Joy.
Mughlai Paratha is a special item and not available every trading day. Please check the Menu Page for the updated menu.
Biryani
Biryani
Kolkata's love for biryani dominates the Mughlai cuisine that is available through signature outlets such as Arsalan, Rehmania or Shiraz. The Kolkata Biryani is slightly modified - cooked in traditional "dum" style with aromatic spices and tender lamb meat. People who love Kolkata biryani and miss it will relate to the dum style biryani that we make with traditional aromatic spices straightaway.
Please check the Menu Page and update on social media regarding availability of the Biryani.
BENGALI SWEETS
Langcha/ Bengali Gulab Jamun
Kolkata is the city famous for its sweets. Langcha's origin is from towns around Bardhaman in West Bengal. People driving along the GT Road must stop to have the famous lanchas from Saktigarh on way to their destination. We now introduce this mouthwatering delicacy in our menu.
Langcha is made with flour and milk solids. Once fried to perfection they are dipped in sugar syrup to create these mouthwatering sweets. Lovers of Bengali sweets say langcha is different from Gulab Jamun and it holds a very special place in their heart.
Langchas have proven to be a big hit amongst our patrons. They are an absolute delight to end your meal as a dessert.
Along with Langcha we will introduce more dessert items including Mishti Doi (sweetened yoghurt) served frozen in traditional earthen pot. The Mishti Doi is reminiscent of the well known poyodhi or lal doi that people from Kolkata relate to and made famous by sweet shops such as Jalajog, Amrita and Ganguram. We hope our desserts will fill the void and bring back memories of Kolkata, the City of Joy.
